Sustainability is embedded into the day-to-day operation of Mantra Meridien Adelaide & Breakfree North Adelaide, proudly located beside North Adelaide’s parklands and its community. As part of the Accor family, that focus extends to a global commitment to reach Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050 and help protect the planet for the guests, communities and wildlife who share it. It’s an ongoing journey, with practical improvements continually identified across accommodation, food and beverage, and guest services. Here’s a look at what’s been introduced so far.
Amenities
Single-use plastics have been removed from guest rooms, with large-format, refillable pump dispensers used throughout the hotel in place of individual amenities. A refillable Purezza water station in the reception foyer also offers guests sparkling, chilled and still water, cutting down on single-use plastic bottles.
Waste Management
Waste is managed responsibly across the property. In-room recycling starts with dual-compartment bins, then waste is sorted further into co-mingled recycling, cardboard, bottles and cans, with glass recycled for re-manufacturing. In the kitchen, food waste is controlled through careful purchasing, stock rotation, portion control and menu planning, with progress tracked through monthly reporting. Sustainable Housekeeping
Guests can support these efforts through the ‘housekeeping on demand’ initiative, choosing at check-in whether to have their room serviced daily rather than an automatic daily service. Weekly linen changes are still provided, and extra stock or room items are available on request through reception. Towels are only replaced when requested, reducing water, energy and cleaning product use. Housekeeping also works with linen suppliers dedicated to sustainable practices, using energy-conscious laundry processes and carefully selected chemical suppliers.
Energy & Water
LED lighting, smart HVAC monitoring and water-saving fixtures are in use across the property, along with two electric vehicle charging stations located near the car park exit.
Food, Beverage & Events
At Edi’s Kitchen, the restaurant works with Thomas Foods to focus on local and seasonal sourcing, sustainable suppliers and eco-friendly packaging, with recycling in place across food and beverage outlets. The same approach carries through to conferences and events, where water jugs are used instead of bottles, recycling stations are provided in event spaces, and single-use plastics are kept to a minimum. Bookings of 20 guests or more contribute to the Hotels for Trees program, with a tree planted for each qualifying event.
